Jonathan Kennett is an insurance underwriting expert specialising in Financial Lines with over 40 years' experience across both company and Lloyd's insurance markets.
He specialises in Financial Lines insurance including Directors' & Officers' Liability (D&O), Financial Institutions, Investment Managers, Commercial Crime, Professional Indemnity, and related products. His areas of expertise include underwriting standards, policy wording interpretation, coverage interpretation, delegated authority, multinational programmes, facultative reinsurance, and accepted market custom and practice.
During his career Jonathan has held senior underwriting positions with Chubb, AIG, Munich Re, Zurich and ProSight, most recently serving as Deputy Global Head of Financial Lines at Chubb, providing technical underwriting oversight across fifty countries. Throughout his career he has remained actively involved in underwriting large and complex risks, referral decisions, policy wording negotiations, underwriting governance, and technical underwriting oversight.
Jonathan has extensive experience analysing underwriting intent, drafting and negotiating manuscript policy wordings, interpreting coverage, reviewing disputed claims, and assessing whether underwriting decisions and policy construction reflected underwriting intent and accepted market practice.
Jonathan has also contributed to the development of underwriting standards, governance, and market practice through a number of industry and leadership appointments. He has served as Chair of the International Underwriting Association (IUA) Banks Underwriting Group, a member of the IUA Technical Committee, Chair of a Lloyd's Syndicate Conduct Committee, and a member of Chubb's Global Financial Lines Product Board. Through these roles he helped shape underwriting standards, policy development, governance, and fair customer outcomes.
