The FSXpert Group is pleased to announce further growth of its membership with the recent addition of Eric Popp, Naveed Nasar, Karen Cresswell, and Charles Portsmouth. The Group now consists of 50 Financial Services Experts, covering the full spectrum of expertise across the sector, including banking, investment banking, crypto, property investment and all other forms of investment, Lloyd’s and the insurance sector, FinTech, aircraft leasing and employment structures and remuneration in financial services.

 

Eric Popp has provided professional advisory services to the global airline industry for over 30 years. His primary activity is focused on aircraft leasing.

His experience includes being retained as Fleet and Contracts Manager for a European Boeing 737-800 airline. He has negotiated aircraft and engine lease agreements and lease novations with major US and EU-based international aircraft lessors. During the Covid-19 pandemic he succeeded in renegotiating several lease agreements.

He is director of ISIS Aviation Services, a commercial aviation transport trading company. He has also held positions with Fortis Aviation, including Account Manager and Regional Head of USA Turbo Prop Division, where he was responsible for the global sales efforts of a widebody jet aircraft portfolio.

 

Naveed Nasar has over 20 years’ experience in the finance and capital markets area including debt, equity, and securitised derivatives.

He began work with JP Morgan where he had responsibility for convertible bond deal origination and execution. Subsequently at Bank of America he was a specialist in convertible bonds. Here he priced and valued complex convertible bonds and structured and executed convertible bond deals for clients. This experience was further developed when he was managing director of STJ Advisors as a convertible bond advisory specialist.

As a consultant he created and implemented the FinTech strategy for a large asset management firm. Naveed then co-founded a FinTech business aimed at bringing efficiencies to the capital markets. Here he devised a new software platform for banks’ retail products.

 

Karen Cresswell has been employed in the recruitment industry for over 30 years and has held executive management roles within several respected, international, recruitment companies. She has a comprehensive understanding of both permanent and interim recruitment policies, processes, and procedures, especially in the financial services sector. She has supported a business to achieve a full listing on the London Stock Exchange and another to achieve an Aim listing. Her contacts and client base are predominantly within financial services.

Karen is currently Director of Alteris Partners which focuses on the identification of executive and senior management personnel in the banking and financial services sector. She has a particular strength in the identification and remuneration structures of professionals in finance and risk management.

In 2023 Karen was engaged by a leading law firm acting for a major British bank, in an employment tribunal hearing where her expertise was called upon to determine the potential future earnings of the claimant, a banking risk management professional, taking into account prevailing (and projected) market conditions and salaries for permanent and interim personnel.

 

Charles Portsmouth is a chartered accountant with 40 years' experience of the insurance industry. He trained at Ernst & Young and then between 1990 and 2010 held executive appointments in insurance entities including, as finance director, of a Lloyd's broking group, executive director of a quoted Lloyd's corporate capital vehicle, finance director of a Lloyd's managing agent and managing director of an insurance accounting provider.

From 2010, Charles was a Director in BDO's financial services practice, providing advice and assurance to the firm's insurance and other financial services clients on corporate governance, risk management and regulatory compliance. He participated in several s.166 reviews over governance and risk management issues at financial services entities and, following s.166 reviews, supported clients in remediating governance and risk management frameworks, and related controls and MI. He led board effectiveness reviews at insurers and insurance brokers. Charles has also acted as an expert witness at a FRC Disciplinary Tribunal.

 

The expertise of these additional Experts has significantly enhanced the experience across the Group, especially in the fields of insurance, aircraft leasing, convertible bonds, fintech, recruitment and employment.

The FS Expert Group focuses entirely on the financial services sector and provides expertise to litigants and others engaged in disputes and investigations relating to this leading professional sector in the UK and globally. In court, the Group provides expert witness evidence and independence of thought, based on extensive personal experience.
